I used to eyeball making my matcha lattes, taking my “best guess” at how much matcha, water, milk, and sweetener to add. And while those matchas were perfectly fine, they weren’t consistent. Some days I’d love the outcome. Other days, I’d be like, this doesn’t taste quite the same!
Enter: a barista scale. The perfect way to ensure your matcha comes out perfect every single time. (I personally use the timemore scale and absolutely love it!)
I can now say I rarely ever make a matcha without my scale. I may be somewhat reliant on it. But when the matcha comes out as good as it does… I don’t think I have a problem with that!
After experimenting with many different ratios, these are my favorites that I always go back to.
The everyday latte:
My everyday matcha ratio that I use most days! This ratio results in a perfectly balanced matcha latte that allows you to taste the matcha. With or without sweetener, I love how this matcha turns out every time
4g matcha, 45g water, 120g milk, 6g sweetener (optional)
The strong latte:
Some days, you need a matcha latte with a little extra punch. Lowering the amount of milk lets you taste the matcha even more, and if you use a matcha powder with a creamy consistency, results in a latte that is truly a treat! I also use this ratio if I have a matcha powder that is slightly less flavorful and I want to taste it more.
4g matcha, 50g water, 90g milk
The giant latte:
For those days where 4g of matcha doesn’t quite cut it. This one will have you feeling caffeinated (you’ve been warned!)
6g matcha, 70g water, 180g milk, 12g sweetener (optional)
The mini latte:
Sometimes you need a little afternoon matcha pick me up, but don’t want to be up all night. What a perfect opportunity for a mini matcha! This ratio uses my everyday matcha latte ratio but cuts it in half. Plus, mini matchas are simply adorable
2g matcha, 22g water, 60g milk
Happy matcha drinking!
As a fellow matcha lover… thank you 🥰🍵
the way I would down the mini matcha in one slurp. I love it!!
